West Ham have tabled a far bigger offer than Sevilla to Rennes to sign defender Nayef Aguerd, according to Claret & Hugh.
The Hammers news website reports that a deal for the 26-year-old Morocco international to join the Irons is close to completion and “barring any significant late hitches, he will join the club”.
It is understood that Sevilla were only offering £12.7million to Rennes for Aguerd before West Ham came in and blew them out of the water by stumping up £25.5million.

It’s about time that West Ham flashed the cash and started to show themselves as a real force in the transfer market.
It does look as though they’ve offered way more than they needed to sign Aguerd with Sevilla offering around half of the price the Irons did.
However, there’s no doubt that Premier League clubs are always charged more for transfers due to the money that’s in the English game than clubs in the rest of Europe.
The Irons cannot afford to mess around this summer.
There are big gaps in David Moyes’ squad that need to be sorted out as soon as possible.
Getting deals done early is the best policy as not only does it give players more time to settle in before the 2022/23 season kicks off but it also means they could be available on better deals.
If this was left until late August, Rennes would no doubt be demanding more money while other clubs would have also joined the race as the market got smaller and more concentrated.
West Ham are doing well with this deal.
However, they’re far from done in our opinion.
